In Tattoo and Body Art by Romantic Moments,

Getting a tattoo is as risky as it is thrilling. So, to make sure this wonderful experience doesn’t become a lifelong pain, you must take a few precautions before and after getting yourself inked. We have listed here a few things you should do to make the process safer for you.

Precautions Before Getting Inked

Before getting inked, here are a few things that you must keep in mind for safe inking.

Find a Recognised Tattoo Shop

Find around. Talk to people who have got themselves inked, ask for the reference. Check out the tattoo shops, talk to them, ask to see around the shop, and their equipment. Talk about how they maintain hygiene and safety. Make sure everything is clean and well-arranged. Pick the one where you feel most comfortable. And don’t forget to check their license and permit.

Know About The Process

Knowing the process will help you be prepared for the process and know what to expect. Ask about the time it will take, how painful it will be, how many sessions it will take, etc. Talk to them about your fears and doubts if you are a first-timer.

Tell Them About Any Skin Problems If You Have

If you have any skin issues or allergies, talk to your tattoo artist about that. Ask them if having a tattoo will aggravate them in any manner or is it safe to be getting yourself inked. You can also talk to them about some designs to hide your birthmarks or scars.

Anaesthetics For Low Pain Threshold

If you have a very low threshold for pain, talk to your tattoo artist about it. Ask them if they have anaesthetic gels that they can apply before inking you. Or, ask them about what can you do to ease the pain during the process.

The Aftercare

Usually, the tattoo artist tells their clients about how to care for yourself after getting a tattoo but being aware beforehand is always good. So, here’s what you must do.

Keep The Bandage

You must keep the bandage for at least 24 hours after getting the tattoo and keep it protected from water. Raw wounds are more vulnerable to air-borne bacteria and probable infection.

Keep It Clean

You should keep the tattoo and the area around the tattoo clean. Use lukewarm water and antibacterial soap. Don’t rub the area. Gently pat it with a soft towel to dry it. In case of any discomfort, consult your artist or a doctor.

Use Antibiotic Ointment

Generously apply Vitamin A and D loaded antibiotic ointment on the area. It will help you heal quickly and keep you safe from the infection.

Don’t Soak The Area in Water For Too Long

Quick showers will help in the healing of the wound. Soaking it for too long can aid in the growth of the infectious bacterias. Also, make sure your regular soap, shampoo, and conditioner stay away from the tattoo as the chemicals in them can cause irritation and infect the wound.

Protect It From Sun

After the inking, the skin remains tender and raw for some time. So, for a few days, keep it away from too much sun, heat, and water. So, stay away from swimming pools, sauna, steam rooms, sea, beaches, etc.

These are a few things you must keep in mind before and after getting inked. Wear loose and cotton clothes. Remember, itching is a sign of healing. But don’t scratch the area or peel off the skin around it. Use a mild moisturiser for keeping the skin healthy.
